Approaching Krabi with some of the strange geological formations already in sight, I knew my principle destination must be close at hand. The mini-bus from Trang dropped me along the highway not far from the small business district of this small town. The very basic Grand Mansion Hotel near the drop off point looked adequate for a short stay and when I learned of the $14 room rate decided to take it without further quibbling. To my delight and surprise my room even had adequate air conditioning, something occasionally unavailable in other nearby lodges I learned. After a single night I grabbed local transportation for the short 70 Km run up to Phang-Nga where boat trips out into the bay with all the spectacular islands may be hired.
