16 December 2012

Greetings from Mardin,

This interesting city some twenty miles north of the troubled Syrian border is not even on many maps of Turkey, but here I am. Mardin is an ancient city located... excerpted from the main postcard page. This is an additional page for all the extra photos taken while in Mardin on two occasions.

Mardin - Looking up at the third floor of the museum buildings from the entrance area.

Mardin - Clearance for buses is vanishingly small at some point along their routs.

Mardin - Tight squeezes like this happen frequently along most bus routs.

Mardin - To pass on most of the narrow streets through the old city one bus must climb up on the sidewalk and they do it like this driver did.

Mardin - That is the fortress high above the old city peeking over the tops of the museum buildings.

Mardin - Another shot of the Diorama of ancient life on display in the museum.

Mardin - This is a model of a Neolithic house used in the children's classes at the museum.

Mardin - Walking the old city one sees lots of construction activity and donkeys haul the building materials to the work sites as some alleyways are too narrow for trucks.
